Bounty of the sea

The beach in either direction was nearly deserted. The sun dipped low in the sky. Meru deliberately, slowly worked the shallows along a small rocky headland at Radha Nagar Beach on Havelock Island.
Nearby, his 10-year-old son hacked up baitfish with knife for line fishing. Meru paid the boy little attention, and instead stared intently at the sea.
Nothing here moves quickly. So it was with Meru; he took big, careful steps across the rocks, pausing several seconds at a time as he eyed the surf.
Then, Meru sprang forward with a quick toss of the net. One, two, three seconds of waiting. And he yanked the net back in.
Time slowed once more. He caught nothing. After a few more tries, he patiently wrapped up his net, to call it a day.
