Cutting an Indian rug

Last night, I attended performance of Odissi, a style of classical Indian dance. It was beautiful, fantastically lit and hypnotic. As soon as the first dancers stepped on the outdoor stage, I wished for my camera, though with my banged-up shoulder I wouldn’t have been able to lift it.
I’ll make do with the above picture I shot in college. I stumbled upon it last week while sorting photos for a workshop I taught this past weekend; not sure it was ever published.
If memory serves, pictured is Shefali, a very beautiful and talented Indian dancer who was part of a dance troupe at the University of Illinois. She was also in one of my Hindi classes, I believe. The photo was taken in the old, crumbling Lincoln Hall theater.
