Cheating on my kebabwallah

I don’t hide the fact that I have a special relationship with my kebabwalla, but my outlet of choice, however, closed down this spring and I’ve been relegated to a getting my fix at a different, less convenient branch (that I swear just isn’t as good).
Given that, I took a visiting friend up to Old Delhi to the celebrated Karim’s Hotel kebab joint in the bylanes outside Jama Masjid. Karim’s is a legend in Delhi culinary circles and certainly deserves some of it’s fame.
We picked up chicken seekh rolls (for my friend) and paneer tikka for me.
It was good, that’s not in doubt, but it still can’t match my Aap ki Khatir. I’m almost relieved. Visiting any other kebab stand just feels like an illicit tryst.

Every good kebab needs onions. Lots and lots of onions.

R.I.P. to my favorite kebab stand in Khan Market here in Delhi.
In a process that seemed draconian and lacking in reason, police shut down a number of market stalls including a tiny branch of Aap ki Khatir, the hawker of heaven, the best kebabwallah on the planet.
I’m thankful that the older, bigger branch (above) still exists in the Nizamuddin neighborhood; but trips to Khan Market are a little less joyous these days without the promise of paneer paratha roll.

I’m not kidding. I think I’ve fallen in love.

I’m not gonna lie. I have a problem. Call it an addiction. Or better yet, an obsession.
Since moving to Delhi, I have fallen, and fallen hard, for the chicken tikka roll.
Grilled skewers of marinated chicken with sliced red onions and masala wrapped in romali roti. It practically haunts my dreams.

Hungry?

Tender mutton skewered and grilled over charcoal, basted with sauce. Served with onion, lime and roti. Costs only 55 rupees at a little street stall in Paharganj, but tastes like heaven.
