Get down with your Sikh self

Yesterday adherents to the Sikh faith paraded with pomp and circumstance through Paharganj. They were honoring their 10th guru, they’re spiritual leader, Guru Gobind Singh.
Free food was served from stalls along the lane; Sikh “warriors” put on demonstrations of fighting — Gobind Singh is known as a warrior poet — and dancing.
Sadly, the little Canon point-n-shoot doesn’t do the visual feast justice, but…

Of drums and elephants

On a recent evening while I was transcribing in my room, drums exploded outside my window (hit play above). They echoed through the neighborhood here at Tutti Chowk, Paharganj, and by the time I got down to the street, what I believe was a marriage procession had turned down enough alleys that I couldn’t find the drum gang and only heard the banging in the distance.

Tender mutton skewered and grilled over charcoal, basted with sauce. Served with onion, lime and roti. Costs only 55 rupees at a little street stall in Paharganj, but tastes like heaven.
